Microneedling-RF (radiofrequency microneedling)

Collagen building, with respect for Indian skin.

Microneedling-RF is one of the few collagen-building procedures that genuinely belongs in a clinic that treats Indian skin. Insulated needles pass through the epidermis and deliver controlled radiofrequency energy into the dermis — building collagen where it matters, while sparing the pigment-rich surface that older fractional lasers tend to disturb.

On Fitzpatrick III–V skin, this matters. CO2 and erbium fractional resurfacing carry a real risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation; microneedling-RF carries a much lower one, while still moving the needle on acne scars, pores, mild laxity and stretch marks.

A realistic course is 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. It is not a one-and-done procedure, and it is not a substitute for surgery on serious laxity. Within its lane, it is one of the most reliable tools we have.

Patient receiving microneedling-RF in a softly lit treatment room at SkinWise Clinic — calm, natural light.

Good for:

  • Acne scars — rolling and boxcar in particular
  • Enlarged pores on the cheeks and nose
  • Mild skin laxity along the jawline and lower face
  • Stretch marks on the abdomen, thighs and arms
  • Crepey neck and décolletage texture
  • Indian skin tones where ablative fractional resurfacing carries higher PIH risk
  • Patients in their 30s and 40s who want collagen support without surgery

Not the right fit if:

  • You have an active skin infection or inflammatory acne flare in the treatment area
  • You have used oral isotretinoin in the past 6 months
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding — we postpone

How we approach microneedling-RF

1. Right indication, honest expectation

Microneedling-RF works beautifully for textural scarring, pores and mild laxity. It is not a face-lift, not a magic eraser for deep ice-pick scars, and not a single-session fix. We say that before we book the first session.

2. Numbing and conservative first session

Topical numbing for 45 minutes, then a conservative first session to read how the skin behaves. Settings escalate from session two based on healing.

3. Layered with the rest of the plan

We commonly combine microneedling-RF with subcision (for rolling scars) and TCA CROSS (for ice-pick scars). Each tool does what it does best — we don’t ask one procedure to do everything.

4. Strict aftercare and sun protection

No active ingredients for 5–7 days, no scrubs or hot showers for 3 days, daily sunscreen non-negotiable. The course only delivers if the in-between weeks are protected.

What to expect

Session

60–90 minutes including 45 minutes of numbing. The treatment itself is 20–30 minutes per area.

Day 1–2

Mild redness, faint pinpoint marks and a sandpaper feel. Most patients return to work the next day; we plan around big events.

Week 1

Skin feels smoother, slightly tighter. Real collagen change is still building underneath — what you see at one week is not the final result.

3 months and beyond

Collagen remodelling continues for 3–6 months after each session. The course delivers cumulatively across 3–6 sessions.

Indicative pricing

Microneedling-RF consultation (15 min) ₹1,000
Per session — face ₹10,000 – ₹18,000
Per session — face + neck ₹14,000 – ₹22,000
Per session — stretch marks (per area) ₹8,000 – ₹15,000
Acne scar course of 4 sessions Quoted at consult

Courses of 3–6 sessions are planned 4–6 weeks apart and quoted together at consult. Pricing depends on the area, depth setting and whether combination tools (subcision, TCA CROSS) are added.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from regular microneedling?

Regular microneedling makes controlled micro-channels and stimulates surface collagen. Microneedling-RF adds radiofrequency energy delivered into the dermis through insulated needles — more collagen-building reach, with less disturbance to the pigment-rich surface. On Indian skin, the second is usually the better tool.

Is it safer than fractional CO2 or erbium laser on Indian skin?

Yes — meaningfully so. Insulated needles spare the epidermis, which is where most of the post-inflammatory pigmentation risk on Fitzpatrick III–V skin sits. We still treat conservatively, but the PIH risk is lower than with ablative fractional resurfacing.

Will it hurt?

We numb the skin for 45 minutes before the session. Most patients describe the procedure as warm pressure with brief sharp moments rather than pain. We adjust depth and energy if any area is more sensitive.

What is the downtime?

Mild redness and a sandpaper texture for 24–48 hours. Pinpoint marks fade within a day or two. Most patients return to work the next day; we plan around weddings, photo shoots and big events.

Can I do this if I’m pregnant?

No — we postpone microneedling-RF during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and pick the plan back up once you’ve weaned.

How long do results last?

The collagen built by the course holds for years. Most patients book a single maintenance session every 12–18 months to keep the skin trajectory in the right direction. Sun protection between sessions does more than people realise to preserve results.
